mommy brain

Sometimes I have these fabulous ideas of what to write about. I sit down to start typing ... and ... nothing.  There is nothing there.  It's not like writers block. It's actually blank (my mind, that is).
Sometimes, someone will be talking to me and I realize i've not processed a thing they've said .... for how long?
Are there mothers out there who know about this? How long does it last? Because i've also heard it called 'nursing brain' ... which terrifies me, because I'd like to nurse my baby for a long while ... does this mean I'm doomed to not have another clever conversation or cute blog post for over 2 years? eeek!

So, if you've wondered why I don't write witty captions to go along with my pictures ... this is why. there is nothing in my brain other than baby baby baby. (but I suppose that's the way nature intended it ...)

The size and structure of a females brain during pregnancy actually changes - lasting up to 6 months postpartum.  Yup a woman's brain actually shrinks.
HEY, you should read this book if you have a lady brain, or love someone with a lady brain :

well, that's all for today kiddos- oh, and what better timing, I think I hear redding up from his nap  (my brain might have shrunk, but my ears are ever so perky).

TEXAS ANTIQUE WEEK! (part 1)

Well, it's time again for some crazy antique fun! I'm not sure how many years I've been going out to the warrenton/roundtop antique show (festival?) but it's 10+ ... and if you haven't gone, you should. It's so overwhelmingly awesome. It last for 10 days, twice a year (march & october) and covers multiple towns with miles upon miles of old goodness.
I'm probably going back, with it only being a two hour drive from my house (here in texas we consider that a hop, skip and a jump away) and hope to get more pictures of the show then, but for now here are 2 of my favorites, featuring my 2 favorite boys:

and of course, you can't leave a place like that without accumulating some treasures:

Oh, the artwork I am going to make with those finds! ummm ...and yes,I bought a horse!!!! just look at it! I am so excited about it and will post a picture of it's home as soon as we figure out where in the house it will go.
until next time ...

my closet: baby edition

yes, my baby is ever so fashionable! dang! such a looker!
what he wore:
janie & jack newsies cap
eggagogo onesie
britches from the baby gap
and those red vans-like shoes! I actually bought them years ago when a girl friend was having a baby and now her girls have out grown them, so she sent them for redding to wear! too sweet!

... and behind the scenes:

DIY: making the old new again

I'm so tired tonight I have no words, however, I do have a cute little project I made this week to add onto the nursery wall of fun.

Hooray for cheap vintage finds and a little spray paint.
...and now the baby is asleep and the house is clean ... time to eat some ice-cream.

my closet: SPRING GREEN

Although, here in austin things turned green a few months ago with the warm, wet winter we had. Nevertheless, springtime is the time to celebrate it.  So, in honor of spring:

- for the hair color, I mixed manic panic's neon green & turquoise with conditioner (to lighten it a bit).
- i found this dress (skirt?) at 'Room Service,' one of my favorite austin vintage shops

favorite spots: a picture's worth a thousand words

Have I mentioned John is a photographer? He is, and he is quite amazing.  Although i have no interest in exactly how he does it, he will never stop trying to explain it to me ... he buys old cameras on ebay and fixes them (a man who can fix things is somehow so much more of a man).
However, because of this, we have polaroids coming out of our ears.  Drawers are full. The refrigerator is covered. And now they are starting to show up other random places.
Honestly, I love it.

on a (quite adorable) side note, I thought redding was sleeping next to me on the couch and I just looked over to find him laying there smiling at me. oh, wednesdays are good.

yes, the clock says 4:20... and not for any other reason than that was the time redding was born.

one year anniversary

This week marks our one year of being 'Facebook official' ... and in this day and age, isn't that what matters???? (*snicker. giggle*).  And if you aren't so quick in the math department ... yes, we got pregnant after one month of 'officiality' (is that a word? if not, it should be).  Probably the best 'oops' of my life. no, not probably, definitely.  But, this post (for once) isn't about my sweet redding, it's about my man.  Who, just happens to be superman.
Here is to our 2nd year together ... it will be difficult to top last year (well, actually, i won't be pregnant for the majority of it, so that, right there, gives us a head start). :)

the AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER  ... (and my very own sister!)

DIY (baby) mobile

I've made my baby a mobile!!! YAY! (i feel like i should say 'I've finally FINISHED making my baby a mobile).  I started making his mobile back in 2011 (you know, all of three months ago).  Actually, John and I both were all about the mobiles, we were going to make a few for redding and one for all of our soon-to-be-parents friends as well. BUT THEN, redding was born and out the door went that plan. :) oh well.

Because I wanted it to be pretty from an adult-size person's point of view AND a baby's point of view, I made the 3D like circles you see in the first picture (by cutting a slit in two circles and sliding them together).
I strung the circles together with fishing wire (and a little hot glue to hold into place).

redding looks confused in this picture... perhaps it's the (awesome!!!) mobile or perhaps it's because he is laying in his crib for the first time :)
happy happy friday!

p.s. dude, you totally don't have to have a baby to make one of these ... they're pretty to look at even if you're in your twenties
